Cutting your toenails correctly
Have you wondered… what is the right way to cut my toenails?
Well here are some basic DO’s and DON’T’s to really care for your toenails.
Don’t:
tear or rip nails off
cut a wedge into the middle
cut down the sides of your toenails
Instead:
Use sharp, clean nail clippers or nail scissors
Cut across your toenail following the contour of your toe, but don’t cut down the side
Leave 2mm in front of your nail bed (which is where your nail attaches to your skin)
Carefully use a nail file or emery board to smooth and round the corners of your nail
Come in for a medical pedicure and we’ll teach you how to personally manage your nails, and can recommend or supply the right nail care equipment for you.
If you are experiencing painful toes, redness, bleeding or pus discharge please let us help with our gentle and experienced techniques.
Diabetics or people with poor circulation should have a podiatrist trim your nails for you regularly. Your GP may have already arranged a Podiatry referral that covers the majority of the cost through Medicare. Make sure you use this wonderful service if you have been offered it. And if you have diabetes and have not had a foot check from a Podiatrist, please ask your doctor about this or give us a call on 9249 6988 for more information.
